Communicating without symbolic language was
really hard, specially that we were grown up and raised learning to talk using
pointing, raising eyebrows, hands and head movements, and other symbolic
language. My partners had to stay silent and communicate with me the way I was
communicate with them, but it was kind of hard for them to switch back and
forth, since between them there where talking regular, but with me they had to
stop and start using movements only, so was kind of confusing and they did lots
of mistake. Voice is always a strong method of expressing your feeling, ideas
and even in fighting, Imagine two person fighting with out screaming, it wont
be as effective as loud voices and screaming, so having two cultures one speak
and other don’t, will effect the non specking culture, the speaking culture
will express their ideas no matter how complex it was more than the culture
that doesn’t use symbolic language. Hands, head and eyebrows movement is
helpful in expressing feelings and ideas but not as effective as mixing them
with voice notes and spoken language. As well as just talking in the same note
with out movements, that will not be as helpful and the mix of both body
movements and voices. The culture which speaks will have difficulties dealing
with the opposite culture that doesn’t speak, it will not be easy for them to
communicate. People who had diseases and have no throat to talk, they cannot
use symbolic language which effect their communications with people who use it.
Part
2:
I only stood still talking in the same notes
with out using any hand, heads or eyebrows no more than 6 minutes, it was a
very hard experiment to finish, I was never used to talk with out notes or
moving my hands and eyebrows. I asked some questions to one of the partners and
it was in the same note as regular statement, and it was hard for them to
figure out that it was a question. They couldn’t focus so much .Sign is the
world’s one of the most powerful medium of communications, non speech language
is important and useful in our daily life, because we will be put in situation
where you need to express your idea with out speaking, such as quit places
where talking is prohibited . Example: you are sitting in a class and needed an
eraser from your classmates next to you but you cant speak, you can just do
small movements in your head and eyebrows that means give me the eraser please
and maybe a smile to say thank you. There are certainly people who struggle
reading body language, body language becomes easier with practice, and with out
practice you will suffer using it. Its always helpful and benefit the person to
understand and use body language because there is a big chance to meet people
who only communicate with body language and cant speak, and you have to
understand them so it always good to practice on that and start using it. On
the other hand not knowing body language can benefits in some situations, first
it encourages the person on interacting more by talking since some people find
moving so much while talking is annoying. Second, not knowing body language may
reduce the chance of misunderstanding a partner’s body language which cause
less problems, for example, your friend might move his hand while talking to
you in away you think it was disrespectful where he/she never meant it that
way.
Part
3:
Written language is very important specially for
those who cant speak, every body understand written language so its easier if
it was permitted, because my partners didn’t understand some words so as I, so
if we used writing it would have been easy for both of to communicate with out
misunderstanding each others. There are befits from using written language,
first of all its suitable if you are using formal language. Second of all, it
is a lot more precise and explicit than spoken language or any other types of
language. Third of all, while writing you will not have expressions, so there
will be less misunderstanding and lastly, around the world, written language
was very effective and useful in communicating with people in all cultures, the
main three advantages for having written language around the world would be:
-Being able to
carry on traditions to different generations
-After the elders
die out, the stories stay the same
-Once the
civilization has died out other people can learn about that culture.
this is a really good post and i would have to agree that its would not be as affective without using language and voices in a fight it the loud voives and noise that brings excitement.
ReplyDeleteOverall, very good post. I was intrigued by your use of the example of two angry people yelling at each other without words. Not very affective!
ReplyDeleteThere are some people who physically cannot read body language and no practice would help with this. Can you think of who they might be?
Good content. The only suggestion I have is to make sure you do a spell/grammar check before posting so that you can communicate your ideas clearly without the distraction of errors.
I liked your post, but I don't necessarily agree. I think that two people that are mad at each other and can't use their voice is not as affective. I know many people in relationships that say what they hate more than fighting is when their spose gives them the silent treatment. That can be more affective. I think that body language can be more effective, but I think that it would depend on the situation. For example, if you know the person well and you know how they respond to things. It would make reading them easier. If you were the one sending the signals and you know the other person you would know if they would pick up on the body language you are providing. I know I am ver expressive, there are not many people that cannot read my body language. I think that is due to growing up around American Sign Language and deaf grandparents. I have been raised with being expressive body language. I will take what I read from other's body more personal than what they say. I feel like the body doesn't lie as much as the mouth. People get too caught up in what to say and how to say it that they do not focus on their body and what their body is saying. Within the body language is where the raw truth lies.
